Who Can Receive Chiropractic Care?

An adjustment is the word used to describe the process by which the chiropractor corrects vertebral subluxations and involves helping the body’s own spinal muscles move the slightly misaligned spinal bone back to its normal position. Almost everyone can be adjusted. That is, from a day-old baby who may have had a difficult delivery, to the pregnant woman, to the ninety-year-old suffering from a lifetime of spinal stress.

Of course, different body types and ages are adjusted differently. A baby is adjusted using light finger pressure, and if it is asleep during the visit it may not even wake. Likewise, young children and the frail elderly are adjusted in a different manner to a robust young man.

The adjustment is adapted to suit the individual, with the minimum amount of pressure used in every case. In my office, I have Hi-Lo tables which you stand on and lean against, and it mechanically lowers you to a horizontal position. This makes it very easy for those people who may have difficulty climbing on and off, and rolling over on a stationary flat table.
