How chiropractic care can help you to maximise your health potential

There are three major areas of your personal health history that directly affect your health potential, as well as your ability to obtain the maximum benefit from chiropractic care. In the last two articles I discussed previous surgery and injuries. In this article I talk about previous chiropractic care.

Given that our society is now so mobile, it is very common for patients to have previously visited more than one chiropractor. This can sometimes be an advantage to both the chiropractor and patient. If the patient has been receiving chiropractic care recently, and if it has been ongoing and regular, then it is just a matter of continuing care. If the patient had not been to a chiropractor for anything up to a few years, but they had been receiving regular, ongoing care for some time prior to the break, then it may be just a matter of getting back on track. That doesn’t take nearly as long to achieve compared to someone who had only been receiving occasional care earlier in their life. Then, generally, a lot more work and time is required to achieve the desired health outcomes.

But a potential disadvantage of having seen different chiropractors is that chiropractic procedures and techniques can vary as much as the number of chiropractors. No two chiropractors practise exactly alike. There are numerous ways to do the same thing. That does not necessarily mean that one procedure or technique is better than another. However, it can sometimes be difficult to adapt to a different chiropractor and his or her methods if you are used to something else. Of course, if you’re not satisfied with the new techniques, try another chiropractor.

Another very important point to consider is that not only may the techniques be different, but you are different. Whether it has been a month, a year or thirty years since you last visited a chiropractor, you are not the same person, and this is especially the case if it has been a long time since your last visit: you have gotten older, your recuperative powers may have diminished, your subluxations will have been there for longer and there may be more damage for your body to heal. You cannot expect to see physiological changes in  your body as quickly as you once did. For this reason, if it has been some time since you last visited a chiropractor, you need to be patient in reaching your health potential.
